UNESCO Considers Benin Bronzes for Enhanced Heritage Status
Delegations from UNESCO and the International Council of Museums (ICOM) met with EDSTA officials last week to discuss expanding the heritage designation of the Benin Bronze casting tradition. The ancient lost-wax casting technique, practiced uninterrupted for over 600 years along Igun Street, is already recognized as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The new proposal would create a cultural corridor linking the Igun Street Guild, the Benin National Museum, and the Oba's Palace Complex as a unified World Heritage Site.
